SOLUBLE COFFEE

If you are looking for a 100% pure coffee product that is easy to prepare, easy to store and easy to transport, then soluble coffee (also known as coffee powder) is the answer. Soluble coffee lets you create great tasting coffee just by adding hot water or milk to it. Its long shelf life means you can store soluble coffee for months in a dry place. And thanks to durable packaging (including single serve packets), throughout history soluble coffee has been used in military rations, space shuttle flights, wilderness backpacking trips and much more – both extraordinary and ordinary.

The beauty of soluble coffee is that it gives you a 100% pure coffee experience in a 100% convenient way. You can enjoy soluble coffee anywhere, all you need is hot water.

Soluble Coffee Production

The process of producing soluble coffee is very similar to the process of producing regular coffee. Green coffee beans are carefully selected, roasted, and ground. Once ground, the coffee is steeped in hot water and coffee solids are extracted in a liquor, in a process called extraction. It is then dried (or in rare cases kept in concentrated liquid form) using either a freeze-drying or a spray drying technique. While spray drying can be more economical, freeze-drying is often preferred because the gentler method is suitable for the more delicate Arabica rich blends.

Once dried, the coffee powder (or larger granules) is packaged into jars, sachets, tins and packets before being transported to cafes, offices, shops and its ultimate destination - your coffee mug!

NESCAFÉ® COFFEE

NESCAFÉ® is proud to be an integral part of the history of soluble coffee. Although soluble coffee was invented in 1901, it wasn’t until the 1940s that it became something everyone could enjoy and that was all thanks to our advanced coffee refining process.

It all started in 1930 when the Brazilian government first approached Nestlé to find a way to preserve its huge coffee surplus. The idea was to produce a quality mug of coffee that could be made simply by adding water. After eight long years of research, NESCAFÉ® soluble coffee was born, and the coffee industry was revolutionised.

For over 75 years, we’ve worked hard to capture coffee at its best and give you the 100% NESCAFÉ® taste that you love so much.
